Highlighting AMAZING PADRE Kids!
Meet Ryan Mills, age 14, diagnosed at age 3.

My name is Ryan Mills and I'm 14 years old. I've been living with Type 1 Diabetes for 11 years, since I was 3 years old. Even though I do not remember the diagnosis, there's a new challenge every day. These daily challenges motivate me to be a better person and Type 1 Diabetic. I have to check my blood before eating, bolus with my insulin pump, and stay positive to keep myself on the right track. I don’t let diabetes defy me in any way. I surf and wrestle and enjoy every minute of it. Diabetes is a 24/7 disease where you never get a break! I keep myself motivated by staying involved with the PADRE Foundation.

The first event I attended was four years ago at their Catalina Island Adventure Camp. This was an AWESOME experience! This was a weekend where I was able to let my guard down, because everyone around me also had Type 1 Diabetes. At their camp I enjoyed all the activities, but especially liked snorkeling, hiking, and kayaking with all of my best buddies. PADRE has helped me creep out of my shell, as a diabetic. They understand me and most importantly the disease. I am now a part of the PADRE Youth Leaders Program, another great experience teaching me how to become a better leader within the community, and giving me more opportunities to interact with others who understand my disease.

Thank you PADRE!
